Leadership

As a native of Pittsburgh, I’ve got an undying loyalty to our city’s sports teams. I grew up in the Roberto Clemente era, who was perhaps one of the greatest baseball players (and human beings) of all time.
I’m also devoted to the Pittsburgh Steelers who are tied with the New England Patriots as the only two teams to have each won six Super Bowl Championships.
Chuck Noll coached the team to four of those wins, while Bill Cowher and Mike Tomlin, the Steeler’s current coach each have one win to their credit.
While I have a great deal of respect for all three of these gentlemen and their leadership styles, I’m especially impressed with Bill Cowher, a native son who grew up in the Crafton section of Pittsburgh.
One of the qualities that impresses me the most about Bill Cowher is his humility. In 2020 he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s centennial class. When told that his hometown of Crafton wanted to name a street after him, he deferred and requested that the alley behind his home be renamed Cowher Alley…which it was.
Recently I came across an interview Cowher gave in which he shares his philosophy on leadership. The link to the interview is below. After reading it, I’ve concluded that we need more leaders like Bill Cowher in all corners of our globe. I’d be curious to know what you think.
