When my wife took up quilting over 40 years ago, I had no idea about the impact and influence it would have on the lives of our family and friends.
Through her “hobby” (which some might call an obsession) she’s made friends around the globe who have inspired and helped her unleash her God given talent and creativity.
But it’s not just quilting that has become a passion for her, as she never hesitates to immerse herself in any fabric arts related endeavor at the drop of a hat.
Knitting, crocheting, or helping our grandchildren with a sewing project brings out the best in her. When our daughter was in high school, and one of her girlfriends purchased a prom dress that needed to be altered, my wife was the “go to” person who would gladly help in a pinch. On more than one occasion, a pastor at our church who got wind of her talents, has dropped off a pair of his favorite blue jeans in need of repair so that they could remain in his wardrobe.
Her passion for quilting took us to Raleigh, NC earlier this year to attend QuiltCon 2026, the largest modern quilting event in the world, hosted by the Modern Quilt Guild.
With attendees coming from around the globe, QuiltCon 2026 featured a vibrant quilt show full of competition quilts, community outreach quilts, and special exhibits as well as enticing vendor displays curated with the modern quilter in mind. QuiltCon 2026 also featured lectures and workshops which were available to the registrants who attend the four-day event.
Even if you’re not a quilter (like me) you can’t help being impressed by the incredible artistry of this craft. If you’d like to learn more about the Modern Quilters and see the award-
winning quilts from QuiltCon 2026, they can be accessed via the following link:
